The volunteers are the heart of Grace Ann’s productions. Every large production includes about 40 to 50 volunteers. Their jobs include ushering, orchestra musicians, lighting and sound technicians, back stage crew, dressers, child wranglers, make up artists, hair dressers, stage managers, prop managers, advertising and program designers, set builders, scenic designers and artists, special effects artists, tech directors, gophers and assistants, concession managers and clean-up crew.
Without these volunteers the productions wouldn’t be what they are. The volunteers are made up of parents, local citizens, business professionals, retired citizens, husbands and wives, fathers and mothers, brothers and sisters. There is a place for anyone that wants to be a part of the magic of theatre. The volunteers give blood, sweat and sometimes tears to make the shows work and are honored at the annual volunteer dinner hosted by Grace Ann. Some of the volunteers put in 100 hours during the final week alone to get the show up. The work is often dirty, heavy, and hard. But the work is also fun and very fulfilling. When you see the final product, it all seems worth it or as Grace Ann would say, “…kinda like giving childbirth.”
